In 2016, Beach Baby released their acclaimed debut, No Mind No Money. Wistfully documenting mid-20’s malaise, and splicing the post-punk of 80’s indie with the organ sounds of Beach House, the record did well. Millions of streams on Spotify, extensive UK and US tours, sold-out shows - all the good stuff. But by the start of 2017, things had changed. There really was no money. So if Beach Baby wanted to make more music, they were going to have to do it differently.
Lovin’ Feeling is the first song to emerge from a long period of hibernation. Conceived in ‘The Lodge’ (a shed at the bottom of the garden), it’s a sad-eyed ode to romantic disaffection, but it also makes you want to party. Featuring a deliriously catchy sax riff, a smattering of congas, and a sound that is more than a little 70’s, it marks the creation of both a new sound and a weirdly wonderful, surreally subterranean, world.
