The Federación Mexicana de Charrería, whose origin dates back to 1933, is the association in charge of grouping and organizing all the Charro Associations and other related organizations, both national and foreign, that have or pursue identical or similar ideals to those of the Federation. Its mission is to maintain, preserve and promote, inside and outside the National territory, the customs, values and traditions of Mexico and to promote the practice of the sport and all related activities in civic, educational, social and cultural aspects.
Charreria is the set of equestrian and cowboy skills of the Mexican charro. All this makes up a spectacle sport of great popularity and roots in Mexico. Since December 1, 2016, it has been Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, after being added to this representative list at the meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
