Timba is the Cuban counterpart of salsa music, and is often understood to be a sub-category of salsa. However, the historical development of timba has been quite independent of the development of salsa in the United States and Puerto Rico and the music has its own trademark aspects. Though quite similar to salsa on the surface of things, timba has certain qualities of its own which distinguish it from salsa, similar to the way American R&B is distinguished from soul. In general, timba is considered to be a highly aggressive type of music, with rhythm and "swing" taking precedence over melody and lyricism. Very little "traditional" salsa existed (or exists) in Cuba, the most influential foreign 'salsero' being Venezuelan Oscar d'León, who is one of the few salsa artists to have performed in Cuba. Timba musicians thus rightly claim a different musical heritage from salsa musicians.

In March 2006, I began a project to faithfully recreate every Iron Maiden-penned song, plus a large number of their cover songs, in acoustic versions. All these songs are entirely my own work, recorded at home straight into my computer using Cubase SX3 software for mixing. Around the first 60-odd tracks or so were recorded using a simple webcam microphone before I splashed out on a high-end Samson Q1U USB microphone which gives vastly better quality. I have never asked for any money for these tracks as I am doing this project out of my absolute love for the band and their music and know that the majority of fans will never get to hear acoustic versions of the songs from the band themselves, so someone has to do it! If you get the chance to listen, I do hope you enjoy my work and can appreciate the hundreds of hours of effort and love that go into them!

Yusimi Moya Rodriguez is a professional dancer educated on Arts University in Havana, Cuba. She has been working for several years at the state-run "Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba" (also known as "Ballet Folklorico") and the private dance company "Ebony". She moved to Europe in 2013.
